Challenge

As this hygiene and infection prevention company expanded and acquired new businesses, consolidating all end-to-end data within a single PLM system posed a significant challenge. The existing infrastructure struggled to cope with the growing volume of data, leading to complexities in managing data flow effectively.

Solution

The biggest priority of the project was to get the company away from its legacy PLM system — in this case EPIC — and get everything into SAP PLM. The new system provided a central platform to consolidate and manage all data efficiently, resulting in streamlined processes and improved productivity.

Numerous specification processes and software systems were tailored to each division, region, or legacy company, leading to a fragmented landscape. These disparities in processes and software hindered speed to market, diminished visibility, posed cross-manufacturing hurdles, and ultimately jeopardized quality and regulatory compliance. As the company expanded, these inefficiencies became more pronounced: processes grew sluggish, information was scattered across disparate silos, and transparency within and between systems dwindled. Recognizing the need for a unified solution, the decision was made to implement SAP PLM, with Zircoo selected as the trusted partner to spearhead this transformative journey.

Project Scope

Zircoo is very familiar with this transformation. For quick and seamless data migration we leveraged VeloX tool to migrate all equipment data into the new SAP PLM system. Once this migration was complete, it was time to automate change management workflows within SAP PLM. Using a full IPS enterprise package, this company was able to automate the decision control process for materials, BOMs, and all documents in the process of review and approval. Zircoo was able to customize engineering records and use IPS-controlled workflows to allow objects to work up through the approval phases, eventually leading to quicker time to manufacturing.

Results

Cycle times have been slashed by over 60% for spec creation, enabling manufacturing to kick off much earlier. Capacity has seen a boost of over 25%. Moreover, the implementation of a streamlined process has resulted in a marked decrease in errors, saving time and enhancing overall efficiency. This transformation lays the groundwork for a unified company, establishing a singular repository for specification data, decoupled from the ERP system to facilitate Supply Chain optimization.

The key lesson learned is that consolidating systems and workflows enhances data accuracy while cutting down on inefficiencies. Implementing end-to-end product production establishes transparency and oversight, further reducing cycle times.
