SAP EHS SUSTAINABILITY SOLUTIONS FOR A LARGE CHEMICAL MANUFACTURER

The Zircoo team implemented a multi-dimensional sustainability SAP EHS solution for a global chemical company.

SAP EHS Sustainability Solutions For A Large Chemical Manufacturer

Customer

A European-based conglomerate, the foremost in chemical production globally, specializes in supplying automotive sector components, construction materials and aggregates, diverse plastics, synthetic rubber, fertilizers, chemical plant protection solutions, as well as facilitating gas and oil extraction processes.

Challenge

The client sought a comprehensive solution to enhance the monitoring and analysis of hazardous chemicals data while ensuring instant access to the latest information. Moreover, they operated on an outdated SAP ERP system paired with an EHSM system, necessitating an upgrade to SAP S/4 HANA capable of seamlessly integrating with third-party applications. Furthermore, compliance with stringent government regulations regarding Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) was imperative, requiring robust reporting capabilities.

Solution

The SAP EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety Management) sustainability solutions comprehensively addressed all the client’s requirements pertaining to environmental and employee health safety, as well as data tracking and management. This encompassed the development of Fiori applications tailored for EHS-specific reporting needs.

Products and Services
    • SAP Environment, Health, and Safety Management (SAP EHS)
    • SAP Implementation
Solution Overview:

Four key solutions were devised and executed for the client:

1. EHS Health and Safety Implementation:

The Zircoo team crafted brand-new Fiori applications integrated with Business Objects within the S/4 HANA core. These applications were designed to oversee and uphold safety across various tiers of the client’s global factories. They offer analytical capabilities, leveraging the robust analytical engine of S/4 HANA to provide aggregated insights.

Applications Developed:

    • Chemicals Inventory
    • Hazardous Substance Inventory
    • Safety Instructions
    • Chemical Data Analysis
    • Monitoring Changes in Chemical Data

2. EHS Environment Management Implementation:

This segment of the project encompassed several initiatives:

  • Establishment of a centralized database for environmental permits, amalgamating air and water quality regulations into a unified repository. This entailed refining the EHS location structure and introducing a novel application for creating location objects.
  • Augmentation of EHS Compliance Requirement, EHS Risk Assessment, and EHS Control Inspection processes with additional attributes and functionalities.
  • Customization and deployment of SAP Adobe Interactive Forms for facilitating the transmission and processing of interactive PDF forms from EHS Control Inspections. This involved document storage in the local HANA DB and implementation of Full Text Index for HANA Search.
  • Migration of data to the SAP EHS system, particularly focusing on master data pertaining to plants, which were previously managed in the client’s system for tracking emissions measurements and reporting. However, due to technical limitations, this tool necessitated replacement by SAP EHSM.

3. Implementation of Hazardous Chemical Inventory Reports with Fiori:

Development of Fiori applications tailored for generating EHS-specific reports for the North American region. These reports, including SARA 302, New Jersey TCPA, RMP, Canada E2, CFATS, offer specialized insights to visualize, monitor, and analyze hazardous chemicals data, tracking threshold exceedances across various levels of customer sites by date.

4. EHS Data Migration Reports to SAP S/4 HANA:

Transfer of master data and customized data related to hazardous substance inventories and safety instructions from the legacy EHSM system to the SAP S/4 HANA data model.
