Customer:

One of the world’s largest network providers in the telecom industry.

Challenge:

The client recently acquired a North American network provider, effectively doubling the size of their company. This expansion necessitated the integration of the two entities into a unified ERP system. However, the client faced challenges due to their existing SAP ECC system, which was outdated and difficult to customize. Additionally, the cost associated with upgrading the system posed significant concerns.

Solution:

To address these challenges, the client opted to stay within the SAP ecosystem but upgrade to SAP S/4 HANA. This decision allowed them to modernize their ERP system, benefiting from the advanced capabilities and streamlined processes offered by S/4 HANA while leveraging their existing familiarity with SAP solution.

Business Challenge:

Our client faced the significant hurdle of consolidating their global user base under a unified ERP system. A substantial portion of their engineering data resided in CAD desktop (2004), which lacked engineering-friendly features and relied heavily on GUI interfaces. This fragmented system posed obstacles to efficient engineering change processes, leading to manual sharing via email and spreadsheets.

To overcome these challenges, our client sought to automate and streamline their engineering processes, moving away from outdated manual methods towards a cohesive, centralized solution.

Solution Description:

The existing technology posed significant limitations in managing the user interface, leading to challenges in custom development maintenance and flexibility within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) domain. Opting to remain within the SAP ecosystem, our client decided to upgrade to S/4 HANA, offering a unified platform and serving as the central repository for acquired company legacy data.

To enhance user experience, Zircoo recommended upgrading CAD Desktop users to SAP Engineering Control Center – ECTR. With extensive experience in implementing and customizing ECTR processes, Zircoo ensured seamless integration of product and CAD data within the SAP environment. Addressing challenges such as engineering change workflows, agent determination, document, BOM (Bill of Materials), materials, and routing changes, our client adopted IPS (Integrated Process Solution) to manage these processes efficiently.

IPS empowers SAP business users to create and modify workflows independently, eliminating the need for custom development. This approach mitigates the risk of extended project timelines and potential bottlenecks, providing a streamlined solution for managing complex processes within the new system.
